We have been using UltraBB for quite a while without trouble, but recently, I have had problems with navigation. When I click on a link to open a thread (for instance), the process takes a long tome to complete. In many instance, the progress bar at the bottom of Internet Explorer will reach the fifth bar after a minuet or so and then completely stall without timing out with an error message--just sit there. If I click the link a second time, it will often go right to the new page. Sometimes it takes several clicks. I had this problem a little when with a previous server company, but it has become a real problem since we moved to a new company. Should I be looking at the Server company or do I have something set wrong in the board? If I go to the server company, I know they will just send me back here, so should I give them "guidance," such as point to a MySQL problem? Thanks!

Tom, Do you have the same problem here? if you do then its possibly a bug, if not I would suspect your hosting company. Have you tried other browsers? Who is your hosting company? others here may have had a similar experience. Have you considered Data 1 as a hoster. Data 1 and UltraBB are run by the same people, they cannot pass the buck, I am a firm believer in if you can buy all the services from one person do so, then if it does not work you only have to talk to ONE person.

Well said I'm thinking he might have externally linked images or widgets, that could be a problem too.

I will Jim. Tanygaer, the server company is HostGator. One of our board members insisted we use the. We previously had Lunarpages but had to move because of really bad support and not so good servers. One-stop shopping is always good if manageable and we are big believers in customer loyalty. AOL, FireFox and Internet Explorer all do it. This doe snot happen every click, just some times. This morning was particularly bad but now it is just now and then. Tom

I have just visited hostgators own site http://www.hostgator.com/ and it displays all the characteristics you are commenting upon, slow loads, slow page change, I am in the UK this may have a bearing on the matter, but should not. Look at your costs, if transferring to Data 1 is cost effective I would recommend it, I have several forums hosted by Data 1, cant beat the service or the speed.

My website is http:atransc.org, and counting its subdomains and add-on domains, we are nearing 500 pages. Hostgator has been so much better than Lunarpages that I hesitate to make changes. We also committed for three years to save money for the nonprofit. If there board is slow as well, then I wonder if the problem is MySQ. All of my pages are reasonably responsive, so I see no reason to think it is a server problem. I will go check out their board. Thanks for looking. Tom

You are right, it does hang sometimes. I can't tell right away what it is, the page generation time is obviously being misrepresented since after about a minute it came up and only said .5 seconds. Probably means it's hanging prior to connecting because it had not started counting yet. Still looking, you don't have any external links or images that would be affecting it.

Jim, the board has not given me link trouble since your last post. Did you find something to correct the problem? If so, Thanks! Tom

Just caught up with this topic and the same thing can happen on my board. I have a blue bar at the bottom of the screen and sometimes it can half fill up and then stop and nothing happens at all. A second click on the link usually makes it react instantly. I have to say it has never happened on this board however but mine is loaded with graphics so perhaps that has something to do with it. I'm not too fussed about this as it doesn't happen all the time and is easily cured by the second click but I must confess to being curious about what causes it.

Robert wrote: Just caught up with this topic and the same thing can happen on my board. Hi Bob, It's not the graphics. It's almost certainly caused by those gadgets you have at the bottom of the side columns -- the revolver map thing and the currency converter, and maybe others. Including a link to an external script file is not a good idea if you want your site to run well. If the external server fails to respond, your page is likely to hang. regards, Martin.

Hi Martin, As always, well nearly always, I am taking your advice and have removed all outside items from the bottom of the side panel. I will keep an eye on things and see if there is any improvement. I won't be reinstalling them in any case as I hear what you say about external script files. Cheers Martin. Bob

I have not included any add-on features on the board. It is about as originally installed. The problem with the "click, wait and then click again" solution is that many of my members are not so "click" savvy. I worry about usage falling off when that is happening. But as I say, it has been working well since Jim's last post on this thread. Tom

Yes it was solved, I didn't post about it sorry. It was a problem with the new firewall blocking the IP of the datacenter's resolvers for domain names. Kinda complicated, but I flushed the tables and added the resolver range to the allow list... problem gone. Sorry for no update.
