When writing a PM, if the addressee's name is omitted, or spelled wrong, when the "send" block is clicked, a warning appears that there is no such addressee. Then when the "back" block is clicked, it goes back to the write PM screen, but the message is lost.

Short of copying the message before hitting "send" so that it can be pasted in the second try--is there a way to fix this?

Hi Herb,
It isn't broken :)

The basic fix is to use Firefox, it seems to retain the info on hitting the back button.

I have never just tried to send a PM, I usually click on the user name and click "send PM" or use the PM button in a post, it puts the name in there for you spelled perfectly every time.

Also you can set up your "friends" list to send a mass PM to a group of people.

Hi Mag,

Jim means the browser's own Back button, not the Back link in the error message.

Unfortunately it no longer works in Firefox 7. It did used to work in Firefox up to about Firefox 5.

It works ok in Opera, but of course you then have only the basic text editor.

regards,

Martin.

Yes, Jim--I use Firefox also

Guess that the best thing is to remember to copy before hitting send.

Thought that I was doing something wrong.

I have been known to be wrong once or twice.

This however is not a feature of the software or even a very controllable thing. We couldn't write the editor to do that sort of magic.

This is a well well known and amazingly aggravating thing that goes all the way back to the wowbb days. I have lost many many many long messages and now always make the extra step to copy anything long before sending.

Hopefully the new version will address this by coding it differently initially. I believe this is something David is aware of.

An interesting concept to save some text across 2 round trips to the server...

Yes it isn't possible to the best of my knowledge, it's all up to the browser. The text is nowhere but on your screen. Am I missing something here?

Thinking about this there is an answer, 10 points to the one that comes up with it.

To pull up the 40 year old jingle you have to use cleanser though.

Am I missing something here?

When you click Preview the text is returned to your browser, and it is not necessary to have entered a PM recipient first. Why can't the error page do the same?

i.e. if you click Send without a valid recipient, you would get Preview instead.

On lots of web sites, if you make a mistake or omit something, the page comes back with that field marked in red, and all other fields still intact.

Why is it impossible? Or have I misunderstood the question?

Martin.

I wish to withdraw this rubbish. :whatever:

It does work in Firefox 7, but only if you do a Preview.

Herb, James, Mag, try this (in Firefox):

1. When writing a PM, always do a Preview before sending. I've got into the habit of always previewing all my posts, so sometimes I forget to mention it.

2. Then you can click Send.

3. If the recipient is blank, or any recipient is mis-spelled or invalid, you will get the Error page.

4. Click the Back button in the browser (not the Back link in the error message).

5. You will get your text back.

6. Even if you made some subsequent clicks, you can still get it back -- right click on the browser Back button and then the relevant menu item.

But all this depends on having Previewed your post before sending.

Martin.

Nope

My solution is to check that the users in the to list are valid before submiting the form using AJAX and Javascript
