How much difference is there between hitting the post Reply button and going to the 'Quick Reply' screen?

There are fewer features in Quick Reply, I can't get emoticons where I want them and for whatever reason it doesn't give us email notifications.

I keep forgetting that its a pain in the butt and use it out of instinct.

Can I get rid of that feature?  Or am I missing some great advantage?

I always use quick reply. I never use fancy lettering or colors and rarely any formatting unless I'm sharing a vid.

It is easy to disable if you want, especially since you only run one theme. I personally love that feature.

I still don't see the advantage. It saves one click?

I would probably like it -- or at least not notice it -- if it worked with notifications. Lots of complaints on the board about not receiving notifications, nobody seems to understand they have to use Reply for that, way more trouble trying to tell them that.

Certainly not worth one finger movement. But I still think I'm missing something.

It should send notifications. I'll take a look at that. I thought it did. Hmmmmm.

I've not noticed any lack of notifications.

Martin.

OK, Quick Reply doesn't add the topic to your Watched Topics, so no notifications.

The button to add it is right there above the Quick Reply box, but clicking it loads a fresh page, so you may as well use the normal reply.

I haven't noticed that before because I always use Watched Forums to watch an entire board anyway.

Martin.

On my own forum, I don't get the 'unwatch topic' option at the top, like I do in this window.

LOL! Just saw that the 'watch topic' button is to the far left of the quick reply window on our forum. Never noticed that before!!

We've been thinking it just didn't have that feature for the last year. LOL!

The snag there is that clicking Watch Topic reloads the page, which defeats the entire advantage of using Quick Reply.

But if replying to a topic which you are already watching, Quick Reply is faster for that reason.

Martin.

Ah yes, but not being able to watch the topic at all without great effort was way worse.

I'll look to see how easy and logical it is to move that button over so its where this one is or at least with the rest of the bottom set.

I still think I'll recondition myself to use Reply because of the emoticons though. And I'll still consider disabling it. Is that a Jim thing? Or and Admin thing?

Oh, and I just NOW noticed the 'Back To Top' button. That's been another pain in the butt(on), I've been scrolling. <insert bag-on-head smiley here>

PS: Am I also missing an easy 'Last Post' navigation from the inside the thread?

Hi Jim,

I've been saying for years that Watched Forums is the one feature that puts Ultra way ahead of the rest -- it was the reason I chose wowbb/ultra in the first place, it's the reason I'm here. :)

It has enabled me to do lots of things I couldn't do with any other board. For example my entire board is duplicated in a Yahoo group -- a great backup feature, and gives you chronological reading/searching. Also an alternative way for members to receive emails. See:

Martin.

Hi,

On ANY web page:

Back to top = HOME key on keyboard

Go to bottom = END key on keyboard.

(If you have F7 caret navigation switched on in Firefox -- most folks don't --  you need to press CTRL with the above.)

Martin.

Oooh, clever idea re: the Yahoo Group. I've had problems with oversized Outlook files, that just might be the ticket.

Other software doesn't have 'Watched Forums'?

(And thanks again, I love 'feature talk' -- with specifics).

I often use a wireless mouse to browse from a distance, no keyboard at my fingertips.

Otherwise I'd like keyboard commands for everything.   Gotten out of the habit, but always my preference.

Thanks again.
