Is there a way to find out who made the 50,000th post on my site. A bunch of the members had a thread going with people placing bets on who would make the post and when. No one was paying attention and we blew right past 50,000, so I was wondering if there is a simple SQL that could be run to find out. Thanks everyone!

Jim - first off THANK YOU. Interestingly the first SQL returned a result of member #2, which is a admin account that literally has not been used for months and months. Now I am stumped, BUT ALSO intrigued...

Jim wrote: I fixed the query. Duh to me with the comma OK I ran the new SQL and it gave me a different member. I am curious about Martin's info above. I beleive his way should actually pull up the actual 50,000th post. shouldn't it

we know the 50,000th post was made this afternoon, but the 50,000th single post shows a post made at 7am, or so the time stamp says. could my boards internal time be off?

I did notice the edited time equaled the posted time in that post which does seem a little odd. I would ask him when he posted it and how long it was before he edited it out of curiosity.

Jim wrote: I don't know what to tell you James.... that is the 50,000th post. But it doesn't mean there are 50,000 posts in the database. You may have deleted some. In fact it is almost certain that you have deleted some. The "number of posts" showing in the board stats on the front page (which is probably what your members are watching) will always be less than the current post ID. Unless you have never deleted a post, which is unlikely after 50,000. Just the initial setting up and testing of a board is likely to involve deleting some test posts. If this stuff is important to you, you could keep a tally of the difference between the two numbers, and how many further posts you delete. You would then know in advance what the post ID will be when you actually reach say 60,000 posts showing on the front page. Edit: For example this post's ID is 17874 on this board, and the front page shows 17,775 posts. That means Jim has deleted 99 posts on here since the board started. Unless he deletes some more, the "20,000 posts" count will be reached when the post ID hits 20,099. regards, Martin. Last edited on Mon Jan 25th, 2010 07:47 am by martin_wynne |

martin_wynne wrote: Jim wrote:I don't know what to tell you James.... that is the 50,000th post. now that makes total sense and that would probably explain why the real 50,000th post came earlier in the day then what was seen on the public board. Thank you Martin.

p.s. The first post has an ID of 0. So if you never delete a post, the "number of posts" will actually be one greater than the current ID. (The 1-off difference between the index number and item count in zero-based lists is something which often trips up inexperienced programmers.) Martin. I wrote:The "number of posts" showing in the board stats will always be less than the current post ID. Correction for grammatical error. That should be "will always be fewer than".
