1) Is there a way to send a mass email through the admin panel Mass E-Mail option to all the members who have not maid a post yet - so everyone with 0 posts?

2) on some of the other forums I am members of they send out mass emails to people who have not posted or visited in a while.

Thanks!

You need to move them into a group of their own and mass email them from that.

move them how? Do you mean manually move everyone to a new group.

that seems completely counter productive considering what the software can do. We have the ability to send mass emails to a few preset parameters (like birthday is before, Birthday is after, Registered Before, Registered after) SO IT would stand to reason that there also could be an option for People with 0 posts, or whatever range desired. It could operate exactly like current existing 4 options and have a drop down with an amount to be less then or more then.
SAME with the people who have not visited in a while. Some drop down that lists options to mass email to people who have not visited in the past 30 days, or 60 days, or 90 days, etc.

This would give US the admins of the board the ability to contact our members who either have not posted at all, or have not visited in a while, and try to get them back and participating.

Moving them to another group and then emailing that way is pointlessly time consuming and not taking advantage of what the powerful software we are using can do in my opinion.

I think we have to consider the limits that time imposes on Jim for making alterations to the software. What you are asking for is not unreasonable in itself but when added to the list of things I want, then look at all the other members requirements, it's just not possible overnight.

In the fullness of time I'm sure the software will expand to fulfill all our reasonable needs. In the meantime it's no real hardship to move names into a separate group. I have a group for your kind of members, I call it an Absent Group and their permissions don't allow them to access the forum but they are still members. Now if they are really interested in your forum they will soon e-mail you to find out why.

I agree Robert. I was not suggesting that this feature HAD to be done right away, BUT this is the support forum for the software we use. So this is where we do make suggestions in general and post our thoughts about what we would or would not like to see. what happens after that I can not control.

But we should continue to post ideas that come to us during the daily management and running of our forums.

I agree, but, there is always a but when I agree to anything, been married to long,,,

The but is, I for one would rather see a thread where suggestions are made by whom ever has the idea, and it is not then discussed, this would result in a thread full of ideas, and would be easy for Jim to see. If subsequently you or someone else wanted to discuss the idea then open a separate thread.

Ideas/Requests get buried and lost, in the fullness of time

I'll willingly police the thread and remove any posts that are an attempt at discussion.

So it would be format like this

Post 1 = Idea/Request
Post 2 = Idea/Request

not a bad idea, but ultimately I (and everyone else here) are the customers. If you have a discussion board and different sections about the features, you are going to get questions, suggestions, requests, etc. That leads to ongoing discussions.

Back on point of this thread my original question.

If I manually and time consumingly (not a word I know, lol) move all the members with zero posts to a separate group, and then mass email them, I am now faced with the double work of having to move them back later to the normal group if they start posting. This is exactly why MANY forums out there have the feature to allow the admin to mass email everyone with no posts, or people who have not visited in a while. That allows the admins to easily try to reach out to their members if they want to (they don't have to, but they have the option).
Just today, this morning, I received an email from a forum I have not had time to visit in a while. It was a mass email that said something to the effect of "We miss you on _____ and have not seen you in a while. Come check out these new threads and features, etc etc etc etc". Well guess what - I visited the forum again this morning. The email worked and did what it was supposed to do.

I DON'T want to bother my good posting members. I want to be able to contact the members who are not posting or visiting regularly. This is something I WANT to do. Other admins might not care or want to do this ever. Just something I would like to have the ability to do sometimes.

Manually moving many people to one group and then back again seems counter productive when it possibly could be done automatically.

Again, these are just feature requests. I understand it does not exist currently and might never exist. Just discussion about possibilities.

You could send a mass e-mail to everyone and include in it something like "If you are a regular poster then this will not apply to you." You know then that the right people have received it. The only work involved will be writing the e-mail, which you will have to do anyway.
