One of my members unchecked his PM's in his preferences and now even I (the admin) can not send him a PM.

So they sent one to me, and then disabled the option so i can not respond.

Shouldn't the admin be able to send a PM to anyone, even if they have manually disabled the option.???

-------------------

Next - how do I disable the ability for anyone to be invisible. Where exactly in the code is it so it can be commented out if I choose to do that please.

thanks

Nope. You can ban them or delete them or give them an unusual custom title.

Admins can see invisible people, about the only natural override.

on my old wowbb board we WERE able to "comment" out the ability for someone to check to be invisible. We simple used the standard to comment out code to remove the option and then people did not even see the option in their Preferences.
I have to think that you can still do that now if you tell us where.

I didn't actually read the second part of your post, the invisible comment I made was a coincidence.

You would have to run a SQL query afterward to turn everyone on again.

Hi TVD,

All you need do is "Become this user" and switch their PMs on again. Then log back in as you and send them one.

The same with any other of their settings.

regards,

Martin.

Hi TVD,

I'm invisible on this board and every board I join. I won't join a board where I can't be invisible.

On my own board, everyone is invisible -- I removed the Who's Online feature entirely.

On the other hand, I always use my real name, and encourage my members to do the same. "RadioBreakfast" could be anybody, so it hardly matters whether he is visible or not.

Strange how different folks see things differently -- it must make Jim tear his hair out at times. :)

Martin.

I still have lots of hair but it has gone mostly gray. Picking out new features is always a task also, I try to add the ones that less than 20% of members are going to hate. :)

:)

It would be interesting to have a poll on which features introduced in 1.17 have turned out to be the most welcome in hindsight.

There's no question for me -- View Single Post is brilliant and worth all the others put together. It has allowed me to do lots of things with UltraBB that I couldn't do before. But it took me a while to realise how useful it is.

In fact I created two versions of View Single Post for my purposes -- see:

Martin.

"view single post" is a great feature for Ultra, and something that Vbulletin (and i believe phpbb3) already had. so adding it to ultra added a feature that many new members coming from other existing forums were used to having. very positive.

Yes, View Single Post is available on vBulletin.

But not on phpBB3 or IP.Board, so UltraBB is ahead of the field there. :)

Martin.

I tried them both side by side (view single post), I truly like the Ultra version better.

The side menu selector is an Ultra exclusive though.

It's great, but introduced in 1.15 (I believe), so not eligible for this poll. :)

Hi Jim
Now that you have done this on my board I have a question for you.
On future versions can this be something that you can add to the admin section so you don't have to be bothered with doing it.
Just a simple option for the admin to choose if they want to turn on or off the ability for the entire board to have the option to be invisible or not. A simple check box and then an admin cold decide if they want to allow their members this option of not.

I am not taking away the ability for people to leave this on!!!! Just giving the admin the option to make the decision which way they want to go on their board.

C'mon boys, play nice or I'm going to send you to your rooms...

Allow invisible browsing will be on by default but will be an admin option.

If I forget to add it just remind me in beta testing and I'll add it. It's a quickie.

Thank you sir. The more you add to the admin panel, the less you have to do for people in the future. We are just a few members, but as this software continues to grow there will be more people asking questions like this and others. less work for you if you have the option in the admin panel and not something you have to manually do.

also I adjusted my post above.

Thanks Jim.
