RE: whats going on with this out break of spam? It's not a bot doing the registration, but a real person. That's all they do, day after day. Can be dozens of people working in one shop in some third world country. They make a few dollars and are happy campers. Nothing you can do to stop a real person from registering. As suggested, make a new category and move everyone to it. A second category is easy enough to do. Check the permissions on the new and the old. Make sure new people registering on your forum are not allowed to post. If they check out, move them to the approved category.

So far I believe so. I have had PM conversations with a couple of them. Bad english usually besides what they post which I truly believe is pre formatted by their boss. Or master depending on where they are.

I finally just turned off new registrations last night. We can't keep up with all the spammers. We no sooner get one deleted and another one posts...We don't know what else to do but shut registrations off for now until things calm down a bit.

A better idea is to divert your registration link to a page with a contact email address Dean. That way new members can email if they want to join, and you can then give them the link to the actual registration page. A lot of forums do this, and I am considering it myself. Spammers won't go to all the trouble of contact you asking to sign up.
