A fully integrated gallery is available as a plug in module for the UltraBB software.

The gallery is simple to use and administer, there is no need to register again and all users of an UltraBB board are able to post photos to the gallery as soon as they become members.

It is accessed via the menu system. Below are screen shots taken using both the horizontal and vertical menu system.

From the standard UltraBB install menu

or from a left hand side menu

The Admin Panel is only available to administrators of the forum. and is accessed from a link in the top right hand corner of the View Gallery page.

In the Admin Panel, as an administrator you are able to configure options to suit your forum, this includes setting image sizes, configuring error
messages, these configurations are global to the gallery, they are not however retrospect if changed once the gallery is operating.

Users are presented with a simple to use interface for either uploading photo's or viewing, their own, or any other users photos.

They can easily drill down to a particular user using the standard intuitive buttons incorporated throughout the rest of the board.

At anytime clicking on a picture will open it in a larger size, that you as Admin have set in the Admin Panel.

As  an Admin, or the owner of that gallery you have the option to delete an image. When images are deleted they are removed from the database, and the image is exchanged for a "Not Available" standard image, this stops posts that contain images being broken or having ugly text incorporated.

This solution is truly fully integrated, in the tool bar used for both Posting or sending a Private Message there is a "G" button, this opens a modal dialogue box and allows users to easily insert an image directly from their gallery. Users can insert as many images as they want, although it has to be done one at a time.

The modal dialogue looks like this

The modal includes the ability to upload an image into the gallery, as there is nothing more annoying than being halfway through making a post and finding that the all important image is not in the gallery.

Uploading to the gallery uses standard form technology, with in the Admin Panel you select how many photos that users can upload at once, up to a maximum of 5.

For further information you are welcome to shoot me a message, there is a trial gallery where you can fully appreciate the user experience. Click Here you will need to register as it is a separate board to this.

I personally love this plug in. It's currently only available for purchase by licensed members, but soon I will add it to the order page so if someone wants to buy it along with an UltraBB license they can.

Hi Jim,

How about installing it on this board, so intending buyers can immediately see what's on offer?

You could call it UltraBB-Plus, and make it part of the initial install. :)

regards,

Martin.

You need to PM di or myself with your username and password to private support, then we can give you access to the download. It doesn't run stand alone, so It's only sold as a module for Ultra :)

Welcome back!

Welcome back!
I meant the link for the purchase, not download. I'm sorry if I was misunderstood.

I am just wondering if this would be a good investment for a site just starting out. The site I have up now would greatly benefit from this but I have not really started to promote it yet cause its not ready.

Hi Phillip,

It rather depends what your board is about, doesn't it?

If it's about landscape photography, a Gallery would seem to be essential.

If it's about writing poetry, a Gallery would serve little purpose.

regards,

Martin.

Having the gallery now might encourage new people to sign up on your forum IMHO.

I have some followup questions on the gallery.

Access:  Think I've read somewhere that only registered users can view the gallery. If true, is this admin controllable?  Our forum is an adjunct to our primary web site, which has a photo gallery page which gets lots of visits.  Since we're in the travel/tourism business, photos of people, places, activities tend to attract more attention.

File size:  Are max sizes admin controllable or preset?   I too have had issues with folks sending me photos to post or publish that are enormous and want to keep that reasonable.

Deleting photos:  Should some miscreant post something really offensive, can I delete it?

Interested to hear from those using the gallery-pro or con of your experience.

Thanx

Bart

You need to be a registered member of the board to view or upload to the gallery, a non registered page could be developed, but this would be a chargeable extra

These are controllable within their own limits by the Admin

Admin can delete images or edit comments

Since Davids latest update, allowing users the ability to create folders, it has been used alot more on our forum. I think it is a valuable add-on and would be great if it came with Ultra at purchase.

Excellent add on for any forum where photographs are an important part of that forum. I have 7,000 pictures in the Gallery and members find the software very easy to use. In any forums long term future I think it is a must have.

Hi Bart,

The UltraBB Gallery upload provides the easiest means of including images in posts of any board software I know. :)

Just click a couple of times on the image and there it is visible in your post (in IE and Firefox).

regards,

Martin.

As a member of Roberts' Forum, I find the process to add photos into a post far easier using the Gallery concept than from Photobucket, etc. Straight from my PC to the forum.

I love the Gallery, it's awesome.

Two comments/questions:

Not sure if I asked this before, but is there any way of adding a re-sizing option?

I still hate Photobucket and all the dead links on my board, but it now has a really easy bulk resizing option. So many photos stored on people's computers are too large and its a pain having to go through the step of resizing before uploading.

Any suggestions?

The other is privacy. I'm uploading a lot of gory medical pics, it would be nice to not have them appear in 'view all', is there an option for that?

Thanks, good job. :)

The size of the image allowed to be uploaded is settable in the admin panel of the gallery, there is no option to resize huge files as thy are uploaded.
