Well it was bound to happen sooner or later, the security on one of our servers was compromised and someone was able to upload phishing sites to about 5 accounts before I whacked them. It was an attack on Paypal, fake paypal sites attempting to dupe users into entering their paypal info.

All accounts are clean now but I have to install some of the more modern security measures on 12 as I have on all the newer servers. This might break some scripts, we will work to get as many things working as possible.

In the event your scripts cannot be fixed, we will move you to another server where they will work.

Jim

Only had 2 problems so far. Incredible for the major changes we did.

Problems you might have that could be related to the changes:

1. Cannot update through software control panels (Ultra, wordpress, joomla, Vbull).

2. Cannot delete or change avatars.

3. Cannot delete folders or files via ftp.

All these can be fixed quickly by contacting us. Some things you can fix yourself if you want, permissions on all folders need to be 755 and all files need to be 644. The thing you cannot change is ownership, you will have a difficult time with anything marked user "nobody" or user 99. I will have to change this for you and have started one by one doing it since the change. Many accounts have been changed already.

Does this mean your account is un hackable? Certainly not. It just means that if user X has a weak password and someone gets into his FTP and uploads a hacker script, it will not be able to execute outside the account it is in.

I was just about to post about this. I have a post on my site at http://www.talkcambridge.com that is paypal related. If someone could check to see if this is a related post I would appreciate it. Also is there any recommended actions I need to take or changes I should make?

I couldn't tell by your post if you were actually having problems or not... so I went in your file area and corrected all permissions and ownership just in case.

Don't worry Steve, I have been lurking the entire time! In fact I moved to Ultra and Ultra hosting as soon as Jim opened shop! I was even once a MODERATOR on this forum :-)

Getting back into forum and site stuff so I decided to say hi! Glad to see you are still kickin!

Hi Jim! To be honest I really don't know if there were problems or not being experienced. As it happened my Internet went down on Sunday. I did not see anything weird using my cell phone. I was notified on Facebook about this post involving paypal. I contacted my other Administrator by email using my cell phone and had her take the site offline as I was not able to fully deal with the situation. It said something like it was linking back to Talk Cambridge or was being hosted by TC. It even mentioned the Ultra theme in the link. I have deleted the post now. I have not seen anything weird. I did not have my Internet back until yesterday. Once I got here and saw the post I was pretty sure it was a spam post. Thank you for correcting or verifying the permissions and ownership for me.

The support here is above and beyond the rest. Simply the best!
