TVDinner Go UCONN!

Jim - I have been getting a bunch of these. Both members below are using Firefox. I have experienced the shrinking text issue QUESTION 1 FROM A MEMBER Over 60% of the time that I post in a thread, the font and color that I select during my entry changes the moment that I hit submit. It doesn't happen when I send emails or post in another forum, only here. Has this happened to anyone else. It's been going on for awhile and it's getting a little irritating. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but irritating nonetheless. Case in point. It just happened in this thread! This isn't the font and color I selected WTF?!! QUESTION 2 FROM A MEMBER I've had numerous instances with things "changing" from the time I type them to when I post them. I've learned to adapt (somewhat), and actually hadn't thought about them in some time. ANY help would be appreciated and thank you.

More from MEMBER 2 on his concerns/questions above ------- James, I forgot to post this earlier . . . [This example isn't as "bad" as it gets (actually, I can read the text fairly well), but this "came" up while writing a post in your blog.] ![]()

Hmm red did change. I never use the colors but it looks like there is something wrong (in FF anyway). The lines on the other hand...... naaa. There is nothing code wise that would cause that especially since it goes through the scroll bar. Neither one of these have ever been reported before. I'm blaming Martin for not beating me up about the colors in beta testing LOL. Your emots by the way, I don't know. It has never been a problem. It would be interesting to see if it is one particular one that the bb code crosses the line with the bad word filter. I have seen this before where the quick code for the emoticon or part of it anyway was in the bad word filter and got stripped out. See if it is just one or random or........

I rewrote a lot of that stuff for my own use, so I maybe removed the bug. We did discuss the colours -- see: http://www.ultrabb.net/forum/view_post.php?post_id=12663 We also recently discussed the font sizes, and agreed that the drop-down should show blank initially, because the size by default is controlled by the theme CSS. regards, Martin.

The bug is that it snaps back to a different color not that it doesn't have pretty little names instead of the real color which is the hex code. Geesh. If it were up to me there would be no color at all. Different colors and font sizes and other stuff like glow and scroll are just toys IMO and make stuff harder to actually read which is the primary goal? Text to read? OK end of rant. I've already decided to put pretty little names in the next version because not one person liked the days I spent developing the rainbow generator and nobody I know has ever tweaked the setting for the amount of colors defined which I did put options in just not in the admin panel. For sale, one small bulletin board company best offer. Yes I'm in a bad mood anyway.

67,901 post and I think 1 may have used a different color text then black. I could care less about colors. Make it all black for all I care...

They want color, I give them color. It really shouldn't snap back though. I don't remember it doing that in previous versions of FF I'll have to do more tests.

I've also spent hours developing code that nobody ever uses. But I do use colour and find it helpful on a technical support board: red for warnings dark red for emphasis blue for captions on buttons and other clickable stuff grey for copyright notices on images and suchlike I also use a different font (Courier New fixed-width) for KEYBOARD keys regards, Martin.

Jim wrote: Hmm red did change. I never use the colors but it looks like there is something wrong (in FF anyway). Jim you have access to my board with the admin member name you always use and can test out what every you want on my board like always. The font changing thing is something I have experienced. Just strange when the sizes change, etc.

TVDinner wrote: I will suggest that to him. Do the other forums have a similar WYSIWYG editor? The enhanced editor in UltraBB drives the browser in "design mode". Other boards may use different methods -- many have a simple text editor. Whatever the reason, it is definitely an individual hardware problem. I'm using Firefox and there is no way I can reproduce it, and I'm sure the same goes for everyone else here. You could suggest that he uses the Quick Reply box instead of the Reply buttons. regards, Martin.

I was thinking hardware too, as I already pointed out that it couldn't be the code. I had an old tseng pci graphics card, 1M upgradeable to 4. It used to put random horizontal lines in some areas of forms. Anyway it goes convincing someone they have a computer problem is the hardest thing to do. I've got enemies because they had a computer problem and I insisted on pointing it out to them. They are still out to get me. Having little success though.

Hi Jim, I think this is your bug. When you first set a colour it is inserted as a SPAN STYLE tag. Subsequent changes of colour are inserted as FONT COLOR tags. Your HTML to BBCode routine replaces the FONT tags with BBcode but doesn't look for SPAN tags, so my first red setting would be missed: ![]() Having said that, I have never used the colour settings that way. I always type the text first normally, then afterwards select the required words and apply colour to them. That method has always worked fine. regards, Martin.

Font color is depreciated and should not even be used. This is a can of worms and I think you are on target with the diagnosis Martin. Frankly I'm considering it a small issue, you should see the big can of worms I have open right now with the changes for 1.19. I'm not saying I won't fix it but I would rather clean it up right and as you pointed out it would require bb2html, html2bb changes as well as a few changes in the editor it's self. I'm going somewhere with this trust me.

And as for post 16 I meant the lines only and in no way thought the color problem was hardware related.

ANYHOW I added a line of code to html2bb and it worked for this board (the color snap thing). I tried to post the code but it translated wrong no matter what I did.
