Ever since I had Windows 7 installed on my machine I have had this icon come up on the start screen that I have to click on before anything else happens, most annoying. I can't remember ever having to do this before as I have always just pressed the power button before, walked away to get my coffee and when I came back everything was up and running. How do I get rid of this, does anyone know.

try this Robert Try this, in the search bar in the start menu type msconfig, a box should appear, choose the boot tab, in the boot options tick the box that says "No GUI boot," click apply and restart. Lifted from another forum..

This has turned into another funny one Dave. Did the msconfig thing. Ticked the No GUI box and then 'Apply". OK so far. Rebooted the machine and the icon was still there and had to be clicked on before going further. I let the machine settle down then had a look at msconfig again and it was back to where it had started from with my 'No GUI' box unticked. I ticked it once more, hit the 'Apply' button and then had a look at another tab then back to the one with the No GUI box and it weas unticked again. There wern't any error soigns come up or anything but the box just wont stay ticked.

Well I can only conclude that something is funny in your setup Robert, as it would appear that now the MsConfig is not performing correctly I think I would start by running your malware and virus checker, Just in Case

Robert, do you have a password set on that machine? Seems like that has caused me difficulties setting autologin on XP.

I'm fairly convinced that this is something to do with permissions. I am having some of the same problems with Windows 7 that I had with Vista. The one that stands out is my inabilty to install iTunes. I had the same performance with Vista and there are a lot of posts on here with regard to that. Although I am both the owner and the Administrator of the machine I still don't have a lot of permissions. I don't have a password because I am the only one with access.
