I finished a new computer build for a customer tonight, and loaded for the first time Windows 7 home premium 64.

Remember, I wasn't a Vista hater though I understood it's problems.

It didn't take long at all to figure out that 7 is better in many ways. I found it easier to navigate (more logical) and it didn't load those dumb widgets on the desktop by default.

I would be willing to give it a spin in real life. I'm not "in love" (still too much eye candy and visual stimulation) but I see it has passed Vista already in making sense.

Just my opinion, carry on..........

I love it, I bought Win7 Ultimate because This is the 1st LEGAL Operating System I've had in years and I wanted the Media Center as this is My High Def TV also.

The Almost year long trial period sold me on Ultimate.

I have my Web sites and my music to manage. This setup does it all, Migrating to a New Computer and Win7 ultimate in a years time.

This Time last year I was Fighting XP Home and A Dell P4 at 1.8ghz. Not a bad System, but night and day difference between that and what I am Sitting in front of tonight.

How was this my first Legal operating System?

I had a Copy of DOS First, never bought it and I Bought a Win 95 Upgrade. I never had to buy Win 98, I found the full version CD in a Dumpster at Work where Some Fool Tossed it and I bought an Xp Home Upgrade. So This Actually makes my First Legal  Full Version Operating System. I got by on a wing and a prayer for a lot of years.

John

I recently purchase a laptop and desktop both running Win7 64.  Both machines work fine and the change in how the document folder is handled will take me time to get used to.  I do not use either of those and those that do are younger and bend to the will of Microsft more readily than I would. I still use XP on three machines and Vista on another two.

The have had only three real problems so far.  I use TrendMicro Internet and have been purchasing 10 user blocks of licenses for many years. Lo and  behold the 64 bit version of Win 7 does not work with the version or TrendMicro that is sold in a mutli user version.  Since I purchased the licenses just before I got the new 'puters I had to purchase single user versions of the Trend Micro product that will work on those machines.  My second issue is that I still use two program that run in DOS.  SOunds funny but both are simpler and fast then their modern counterparts and to purchase the new version would require buying an entire suite of software I do not need nor want to use.  And on final issue, I still use Win Cardfile!  No matter what I try Win 7 will not run Cardfile.

I just replaced two 1.8ghz P4 processors in machines that will still run the DOS programs.  Maybe I should stock up on a couple of boards also.

Have you tried Antanas Zdramys's AZZ Cardfile?

http://www.azzcardfile.com/cardfile/indexcards.html

Excellent, imports Windows Cardfile files and does lots more. Really simple to use.

regards,

Martin.

Been using Windows 7 for over 18 months now, currently using ultimate, by far the best PC OS Microsoft has offered, Windows 2008 Server is better but ordinary programs wont run on that...

Martin,

I have looked at AzzCardfile and will probably end up going that route.  But as I hail from the wild north, Aberdeen to be exact, I'm not convinced that I've seen my money's worth out of Cardfile yet.  There's still a wee bit of life left in this thrifty gem.

John
