I had to warranty a hard drive for a customer of mine, a western digital 160G that was almost a year old. It took a royal crap no hope of recovery.

So after I slid a spare 160 I had to him to get him going I sent the hard drive back to WD to see if they were for real about the 3 year replacement policy.

It's been less than 3 weeks and I get a brand new HD today.... a 250G.

SO don't hesitate to go on line and generate a RMA for a spent WD hard drive, just read carefully the fine print about packaging. I'm going to go through my "pile" and look at the mfg dates now!

Jim

Jackson trains 50% of the US Army's male soldiers - plus it's halfway between FL and NY so it's pretty logical they'd send him there.

IMHO, WD has the best hard Drive out there in the WD6401AALS 640GB , Its a 2 platter drive, The Next one up has 3 platters The WD7501AALS 750GB Both are 32MB Cache. Less head swapping and faster operation

I swapped out (4) 750's For (4) 640's recently and don't regret it for a minute.

I would rather have (4) 640 Gb Drives than anything larger, Less time to defragment and run any other maintenance on.

Well it's been 3 months and the replacement they sent me is giving headaches. I didn't install it till about a month after I had it. It makes noise and has locked up on me more than once.

SOOO I take back everything good I said. I'll still buy their products because they are mildly better than the rest but if something goes wrong I'll just eat it to save me headaches and buy a new one.

And sometimes at random when it locks up. Mounting it on it's side worked for a day. It goes "naaaaaaaayaaaaaaaayaaaaaaaayaaaaa" also at random

I'm now posting from a customers server that I just happened to load windows 7 on to test. The other one is scrapped. It won't run for 10 minutes. This sucks.

Majorly. Especially with having to reload the OS and everything.

Well I enjoy that but it affects service. I just re did it from the virus thing a few weeks ago and have all my shortcuts in a row. It's just a waste of time. We all need SSD's, I hope they come down in price in the next couple years... all the data 1 servers will have a pair.

SSDs.....drool...cut that out!
I want to upgrade my main machine to 7...but with XP I'd either have to do a wipe and install or leapfrog it thru Vista....
