Hello everyone.

In the last month we made some fast changes to the Invicta Forums (also an ULTRABB board) and bought a new domain called Watch Freeks (http://www.WatchFreeks.com ) . We set up the new site and moved everything to it.

So now if you go to http://www.invictaforums.com or http://www.invictawatchforums.com they both redirect you to the new domain. We feel strongly that this new domain name is much more mainstream, catchy, memorable, and will attract a wider range of members since the new site covers a much larger range of watch brands, watch topics, and collecting issues. It now does not primarily focus/feature one brand as it previously did.

Since making the switch we have had 15 new members join in the past 24 hours and are seeing a huge jump in posting.

The new site is completely customized by myself and Di from here and looks very hot we think. Custom logo and icons complete the look!

Please check out http://www.WatchFreeks.com and join us if you love, or even like, watches!

Thanks!

Hi TVD,

Interesting site. I didn't realise there was so much about watches.

Sorry to introduce a negative point, but the normal spelling is Freak, with an a.

You could perhaps explain Freek as a freak version of Freak! :)

Martin.

We purposely spelled it incorrectly.

Some of the largest sites out there (for sports teams and other fan forums) have freek spelled that way.

When we could not get watchfreaks.com we just happily took the other domain name.

Finally - there are many, many, many watch forums with MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of posts and tens of thousands of members. A very passionate group who loves to post about watches online.

Had a look at your site and it's a great design. One thing I am curious about though are the "Rep" watches that your advertisers sell. I thought that kind of thing was illegal, not that I know anything about the subject and that's why I am asking.

Thank you Robert. Wanted it to look very clean and professional. We have really taken off in the past week since the change.

That is a google ad at the bottom of the page. I keep blocking those "replica" companies, but there are just so many of them. just have to keep blocking them. I am not sure about the laws, but most of them are out of the country. i keep blocking daily, lol

I see you have two at the top of the page as well. How is it that Google can plaster adverts all over your front page. Woops, I see they are on every page.

He does that intentionally, it will eventually bring in revenue if the site becomes popular.

I placed on small google ad on our forum Robert. For non members, there are 2 or 3 in the announcement box, only until they register. I have made nearly $40 off of the non member ads, since I placed them about 1 1/2 months ago. Not huge, but in this day, anything helps.

LOL - I put the google ads there on the page - it's the content that is the constant monitoring issue.

as our traffic increases, the hope is that the revenue generated from these ads will cover the expenses of running the forum (hosting, renewal fees, staff fees, etc etc etc) - including contest giveaway costs!

It is good, but for some reason I can't bring myself to do it on any of my sites. I even signed up, generated the code and put it on a test board. Just couldn't do it.

Over the years the ads on my sites (forums and non forums) have helped cover the operating costs of the sites. That has been very positive.

They don't effect ours either. I asked the members if they would be upset if I placed one small one on the registered members section, and they all said they could care less, as long as they weren't popups. Its pretty small...in fact, I don't even notice it anymore.

I'd go for it Jim, every dollar helps these days.:)

Don't do it Jim, trust your instinct. It would make the Data 1 sites look very unprofessional.

I promise my members that there will be no advertising on my board and that's the way it's staying. I'm not prepared to lose control of a single pixel to someone else -- who knows what might appear there? Who knows how much money your members may lose by clicking an iffy ad on YOUR board? How would you feel about that?

A PayPal donation button is a much better way to cover the costs of a board. If you need more, negotiate banner ads from specific advertisers who you know and trust to give your members good service.

regards,

Martin.

If at all possible I would hope that this thread can stay on track and about the new forum at Watch Freeks - http://www.WatchFreeks.com . I to chimed in about advertising on sites above and now wish I had not.

Thanks everyone. I hope you take a chance to check out the new site at http://www.watchfreeks.com

Hi TVD,

It is on track about your new board. We noticed you have external advertising on there. We are saying how we feel about that. I myself think it detracts hugely from your site.

But that's just me, others think differently. You ask for feedback, you get feedback! :)

Martin.
